DIRECTOR STATEMENT
Nicki, Apart began with the darkly comic perversities that permeated the suburbs I came of age in. Our parents were always gone, there were always prescription pills around, and there was always something eating at us inside. This nascent ennui amidst the opioid epidemic created a world where teenagers fell to pieces. I was one of them. Nicki is one of them. Her character is my way of exploring the worst parts of ourselves. It’s an intimate character study of a girl running across a tight-rope, enthralled by the fact that she just might fall.
