DIRECTOR STATEMENT
Raft To The Sun deals with three themes: Fatalism, Truth, and Fantasy. It is engaging, and visceral. With a slick and restrained style of cinematography, I created a unique world to add gut wrenching reality. Visually, I wanted to create a piece, influenced by Baroque paintings using the backdrop of Vincent Van Gogh.
The story’s backdrop reveals that, amongst the cynical and unforgiving infrastructure of the critics, the rogue influences of so-called family and friends, the ones who truly believe in you in life, can only be counted on one hand.
The story breaks into a chorus. In that chorus, we see slices of the different character’s lives, and the boundaries of its genre. While the story sits comfortably within a complex, structured and realistic symphonic drama.
The idea is to have a slow cinematic love fest with composition, and then build anticipation when the film ends with an unforgettable twist.
