A reserved, mentally keen, adolescent plans out his first murder of a woman he has been stalking.

DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY

Matthew Robert Vincini is a 24 year old director from New York. He fell in love with film in high school and knew he wanted to make movies for the rest of his life. He attended film school and went on to direct his first feature film less than a year after graduating. He takes inspiration from his favorite filmmakers Paul Thomas Anderson, David Robert Mitchell and Lars Von Trier. Matthew is a lover of celluloid film and tries to incorporate it into as many projects as possible.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT

Psycho Killer, like the song by the great Talking Head, is a look, almost a case study, of a deranged adolescent as he hunts down his first victim.  

When writing it I could see it all clearly in my mind. A gritty dirty looking glimpse into a mind of someone who is lost and dangerous. I knew this was the short I had to make. I wanted this film to feel like one of those very low budget films from the 80s/90s. From score to super 8 film.  

I was inspired by the work of Paul Thomas Anderson and Lars Von Trier. Paul for his stylistic choices and quirky characters and Lars for his dark sometimes funny strange stories.

This film consisted of a skeleton crew. When I say Skeleton I mean just the backbone. Two actors and me, all collectively working together and having fun bringing this story to life with the money in our pockets.

Working on this film made me want to put digital to the side for a long time. The process of shooting film has really made me fall in love with filmmaking all over again.  One of my biggest hopes with this short is to show young filmmakers like me that shooting in film is a possibility and can be done for a lot cheaper than most think.

I hope this film makes you feel uneasy, unsettled, and uncomfortable. You never know who can be sitting next to you while you watch it...
