DIRECTOR STATEMENT
As a child of the 80s and a teen of the 90’s, this story jumped off the page for me. I grew up in what were the ‘new suburbs’ of Dublin. Where the homes met the building sites and where the building sites met the countryside. I remember those days where kids could go out on an adventure in the morning, not return ‘til dark and no adult would bat an eye or have a shred of concern for our safety. Those days are gone sadly, but I think we all feel that today, something is missing. When we look back it’s not just nostalgia that excites us, it is the fact that as adults we crave that long forgotten freedom. I truly believe today’s kids are craving the same, though I’m not sure their 90s inspired fashion sense is a good marker for this (a sign of my age?). The 90s was the time when I drank my first beer, kissed a girl and when I fell in love with film. (La Haine 1995) My fondness for that era holds no bounds and when I look at this film I return to my childhood. An era of innocence, adventure, freedom and hope.
