DIRECTOR STATEMENT: When I started to think about Maelstrøm as a visual concept, I was trying to make an exercise about the narrative use of zoom technique. No dialogues, one location and using codes from a western were my guidelines. Beside that, I worked the concept line from exploring two ideas and takes them to the extreme. Obsession, as a pathological process, that makes a person feel trapped and make decisions that he would not otherwise have made. Intolerance, as a characteristic of our current society that shows intransigence with the behavior of the "other."
